WATERTOWN — The Watertown Rotary Club has announced that Jack E. Traver, Sr. is this year’s recipient of the Alexander L. Alves Award. The 28th annual Alexander Alves Award Dinner will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 15 at the Grand Oak Villa, 550 Sylvan Lake Rd, Oakville. Jack Traver, Sr. grew up in Oakville and has resided in Watertown since childhood, graduating from Watertown High School in 1954. He graduated from Hartford State Technical College and has worked his whole career in the family business, Traver IDC, in Waterbury.

After 38 years in business in Watertown-Oakville, Images Studio, formerly Ric Daunis Photography, has moved to 49 Peter Rd., Southbury. The Swift Middle School cheerleading team completed their 2024 season with a 3rd place finish at Oxford Middle School’s Middle School Mania Competition on March 1. Prior to that, Swift placed 2nd at Shelton’s Heart of a Champion, 4th at Junior NVL’s and 4th at Oxford’s Spirit Spectacular. Awards were given for most original, 2nd and 3rd place tumblers, and 3rd place jumper.

The Valley Chordsmen announced they have added several new voices to the chorus. Joining them are (from left to right) Paul Mathey, Rich Buckley and Ken Yeoman. The Chordsmen have several engagements ahead including the Literacy Volunteers of America Gala at the Aqua Turf Cub in May. Sunday July 14 they will be singing the National Anthem at Dunkin Park in Hartford for the Yard Goats baseball game.
